Gday all – Happy Friday…Today we’ll talk about how to Wipe Data from a Mobile Phone Safely Before Sale.

Selling your mobile phone can be a great way to make some extra cash or upgrade to a newer model. However, before you hand over your device to its new owner, it’s crucial to ensure all your personal data is completely wiped from the phone. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it safely and securely.

1. Back Up Your Data
Before wiping your phone, make sure all your important data is backed up. This includes photos, contacts, messages, apps, and any other crucial information. You can back up your data to a cloud service or a computer.

For iOS Users:

Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup.
Tap “Back Up Now” and wait for the process to complete.
For Android Users:

Go to Settings > System > Backup.
Tap “Back up now” and wait for the process to complete.
2. Log Out of Accounts
Ensure you are logged out of all accounts on your device. This includes your email accounts, social media accounts, and any other apps that require a login.

For iOS Users:

Go to Settings > [your name] > Sign Out.

For Android Users:

Go to Settings > Accounts > Google > Remove Account.
3. Remove SIM and Memory Cards
Remove your SIM card and any external memory cards before wiping your phone. These can contain personal data and should not be handed over with the device.

4. Perform a Factory Reset
A factory reset will erase all the data on your phone and restore it to its original settings. This is the most crucial step in ensuring your data is wiped clean.

For iOS Users:

Go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Enter your Apple ID password if prompted and confirm the reset.
For Android Users:

Go to Settings > System > Reset > Factory Data Reset.
Confirm the reset and wait for the process to complete.
5. Verify the Wipe
After the factory reset, your phone should start up like a new device, without any of your personal data. To be extra sure, you can navigate through the phone to check if any data remains.

6. Update the Software
After wiping your phone, it’s a good idea to update the software to the latest version. This ensures the new owner starts with the most recent updates and security patches.

For iOS Users:

Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

For Android Users:

Go to Settings > System > Advanced > System Update.
7. Physically Clean the Device
Give your phone a thorough physical cleaning. Wipe down the screen, body, and any accessories you’re including with the sale. A clean phone is more appealing to buyers and can help you fetch a better price.
